In my artistic programme I explore my identity in the context of my own life story. Themes of spirituality, marriage, friendships and relationships, personal memory and its subjectivity, and issues of gender play an important role for me.
A key motif is the self-portrait, not only physical but also thought. It is the elusive "I", appearing in the paintings through ethereal fragments of the human body or face that dissolve before the eyes. I differentiate the fragments and the complete figural compositions from their surroundings, at the same time bringing them into harmony with the landscape that the figures inhabit. These structures embody fragments of individual stories that unfold in the timeless space of a wild, imaginative landscape, with the human intervention of solid architectural structures.
Together, they are intimate micro-stories that tell of imaginary worlds or alternative versions of the future, or of the remaking of one's own memories. They are fleeting and dramatic moments when memories, dreams, imaginings, and present traumas collide. My paintings are the product of a personal and spiritual dialogue in my own, inner, emotional world. They are a sincere statement about memory, spirituality, identity, raising critical questions about our society, the established norms of how we experience religion, interpersonal relationships and the relationships we have with ourselves.
